At the level 30 cap, Protection Paladin is the best tank in WoW Forever dungeons, with Protection Warrior close behind. All 4 tank specs are ranked here, with the threat tools and talents behind each.
LV 30 Beta cap · Updated
The 21st point buys Templar's Bulwark, an absorb equal to your full health for 8 seconds, and Consecration holds whole packs. Righteous Fury's holy threat rose from 60% to 90% on Oct 15, though the same patch cut Consecration's spell power and Holy Shield waits for 40.
Last Stand, Defiance and Vanguard fit in 20 points, the 21st buys Concussion Blow, and Thunder Clap now works in Defensive Stance. Shield Slam is a level 40 capstone, so its threat on pulls of four or more trails the Paladin, while cheap Shield Block keeps it the steadiest tank on one target.
Thick Hide, Feral Charge and Primal Bite (a high-threat bite) fit in 20 points, the 21st buys Leader of the Pack, and Oct 8 raised Bear Form's threat bonus from 30% to 50%. It has fewer defensive tools than the plate tanks at 30, since Natural Reaction opens at 35 and Dire Bear Form at 40.
Spirit Weapons, the 21st point in Enhancement, raises threat by 30% while Rockbiter Weapon is on and adds a parry chance, so it can tank leveling dungeons. It lacks the defensive cooldowns of the other three, so treat it as a backup tank for 5-player groups.
Shield Slam and Holy Shield (40), Dire Bear Form (40), Natural Reaction (35) and Berserk (40) change the tank picture. Single-target threat counts for more in raids, which helps Protection Warrior.
Talent data: WoW Forever client build 1.60.1.70450 via wago.tools, fetched Oct 21, 2026. The placements are ours: we read the public level 30 tier lists and Blizzard's development notes, then placed each spec by what its talents allow at 30. On Nov 4 this page switches to level 60, and this list moves to a Leveling dungeons (up to 30) section below it.
