WoW Forever guilds: raid sizes, GDKP ban and DKP

CoGM Team··6 min read

World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026. Players only group and raid inside one ruleset and one faction, so a guild that raids together picks one of each. Every raid tier has at least a 10-player and a 20-player raid (sometimes a 40), and GDKP is banned on North American and European realms. That leaves guilds to split loot with DKP, soft reserves or a loot council.

Below is what Blizzard has said so far, with a source for each point, and what is still unknown.

Rulesets and factions decide who can join

Forever has no realm list. You pick a ruleset instead: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, and Hardcore, which comes some time after launch. Blizzard's ruleset post sets the rules a guild has to plan around:

  • You can only group, run dungeons and raid with players on the same ruleset. Battlegrounds can mix rulesets, except Hardcore.
  • Horde and Alliance still cannot group together.
  • You cannot move a character to another ruleset. To play on a different one, you make a new character there. A Hardcore character that dies can transfer out.
  • On the PvP ruleset, an account can only make characters for one faction. On Normal, Roleplaying and Hardcore, you can make both.

For a guild, that means agreeing on a ruleset and a faction before anyone makes a character. A member who rolls on the wrong ruleset starts over.

Raid sizes: 10, 20 and sometimes 40

Blizzard's designers told Kotaku that every raid tier will have at least one 10-player raid and one 20-player raid, and some tiers add a 40-player raid. There is no flex raiding, so a raid runs at its set size.

A guild with around 10 active raiders can run every tier's 10-player raid. Fielding a 20 or a 40 takes a bigger roster and a bench, which makes signups and attendance tracking matter more.

GDKP is banned in North America and Europe

Blizzard said at BlizzCon 2026 that GDKP will not be allowed in Forever. The reasons given: it pushes out players with less gold, it encourages gold buying, and it can take the place of guild raiding. Blizzard also said it plans to crack down hard on gold buyers.

In a later interview with 4Gamers Taiwan, Blizzard said the ban only covers North American and European realms. Other regions are not affected.

DKP and loot council instead

With GDKP gone, most guilds will pick one of the older systems:

  • DKP: members earn points for showing up and spend them on loot. Fair over a long season, and it rewards attendance.
  • Loot council: officers decide who gets each item. Fast, but it needs trust in the officers.
  • Soft reserve: each raider reserves an item and rolls against others who reserved it. Common in pickup raids.

Our loot council vs DKP guide compares them in detail, and DKP systems explained covers the variants.

Guild charters

Guilds in Forever are founded with a charter that other players sign. Blizzard's beta known issues list says some players could not sign guild charters, so for now the beta lets you hand in a charter with no signatures. Blizzard calls that fix temporary.

What Blizzard has not said yet

We could not find official numbers for these, so we leave them out rather than guess:

  • The maximum number of members in a guild.
  • The cost of a guild charter and how many signatures it needs.
  • Whether Forever has an in-game guild bank, and what its tabs cost.

We will update this page when Blizzard publishes them.

Run your WoW Forever guild on CoGM

CoGM is a Discord bot and dashboard built for raiding guilds, with a page for each Forever tool:

  • DKP tracker: points, soft reserves and loot council awards recorded in one place.
  • Event scheduler: 10, 20 and 40-player raid signups with role slots, posted in Discord.
  • Roster management: every raider's class, role and alts on one sheet.
  • Guild treasury: track the guild's gold and items in Discord.

Set up your WoW Forever guild on CoGM and invite the bot to your server.

FAQ

When does WoW Forever launch?

November 4, 2026.

What raid sizes does WoW Forever have?

Every raid tier has at least one 10-player raid and one 20-player raid, and some tiers also have a 40-player raid. There is no flex raiding.

Is GDKP allowed in WoW Forever?

Not on North American and European realms. Blizzard announced the ban at BlizzCon 2026 and later said it does not apply to other regions.

Can Horde and Alliance be in the same guild in WoW Forever?

Blizzard has not addressed guild membership directly. Horde and Alliance cannot group or raid together, and grouping stays inside one ruleset, so a guild that raids together has to pick one faction and one ruleset. On the PvP ruleset, an account can only have characters on one faction.

How many members can a WoW Forever guild have?

Blizzard has not published a guild member cap for Forever yet.
