Monsters & Memories Beastmaster and Pet Class Guide
The Monsters & Memories Beastmaster is one of three classes built around a pet. The other two are the Necromancer and the Elementalist. The Enchanter and the Shadow Knight can also summon a pet, and several classes can charm a monster. This guide compares the three pet classes. It then covers charm and lists the races that can play each class.

Three ways to fight with a pet
| Class | Where the pet comes from | Armor | Role | Solo, per the developers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beastmaster | You tame a beast with Bestial Bond | Leather | Melee DPS, pet | With a DPS pet, the goal is damage close to other DPS classes. A Tank pet with Guardian Spirit can tank solo and small-group fights |
| Necromancer | You raise undead. Skeleton, Zombie and Ghoul each take a reagent | Cloth (community wiki) | Magic DPS, pet, utility | One of the strongest solo classes |
| Elementalist | You summon an elemental of fire, water, earth or air | Cloth (community wiki) | Magic DPS, pet | Solos well by letting the pet tank |
All three can solo. They differ in what you do while the pet fights. The Beastmaster fights in melee next to its beast. The Necromancer stacks damage over time and drains life. The Elementalist's main damage comes from Companion Strike. The class overview covers all 18 classes, and best solo class compares solo picks across the game.
Whichever class you pick, your starting note sends you to your class guild master, who gives you an introductory quest chain.
Beastmaster: taming, pets and abilities
The Beastmaster has no magic and no spellbook. Its mana stands for the bond between you and your beast. You fight with a two-handed weapon or with claws.
Taming Beastmaster pets
You tame a pet with Bestial Bond. Pets level up and have diets. Each pet fills one of three roles, and each kind of pet brings a utility ability. Spiders, for example, can root a target.
| Role | Pets |
|---|---|
| DPS | Jackal, Snake, Wasp, Wolf |
| Tank | Bear, Beetle, Crocodile |
| Balanced | Bat, Rat, Spider |
You can store pets with a Kennel Master and tame a new one without losing the old one. The May 2026 beta patch notes place Handler Terrem in Night Harbor and Handler Duskglint in Faelindral.
Beastmaster abilities
- Commands: Command: Kill and Command: Protect.
- Spirits: Savage Spirit for offense, Guardian Spirit for defense.
- Instinct auras: Predatory Instinct, and Prowler's Instinct, which gives the group sneak and speed.
- Pet care: Revive Companion and Mend Companion. Lick Wounds heals you.
- Melee: Enraging Strike, Savage Strike, Chop, Maul, Mangle and Pounce.
The developers want a Beastmaster with a DPS pet to deal damage close to other DPS classes. Bring out a Tank pet and cast Guardian Spirit, and the pet can tank solo and small-group fights.
The developers plan to turn shark taming into an Early Access quest and to add mythical beasts as a later quest reward. Neither was in the game at the Early Access launch. Swarm pets were cut.
Necromancer
The developers rank the Necromancer among the strongest solo classes in the game. You fight with your pet and your own spells, and some of your power costs you health.
Necromancer spells
- Damage over time: Deluge (poison), Shadows (corruption, with a snare) and Rot (disease). All three deal bonus damage to undead.
- Drains and transfers: Life Drain, Leech Lifeforce, the Dark Embrace and Covenant lines, Steal/Transfer Strength and the Mind Surge line.
- Pacts: Deathly Enduring, Vampirism, Coldlight and Eldritch Quickening, plus the Blood Pact and Lich chain. Each pact costs you health and gives you power.
- Defense: Unliving Shield, which includes Soul Tether, plus Unholy Bulwark and Feign Death.
Necromancer pets
You raise a Skeleton, Zombie or Ghoul, and each one needs a reagent. The kit also has Spectre Minion, Burning Bones and Command/Dominate the Dead. You earn the first rank of Burning Bones from a quest.
The developers plan two more pet features: pet types you collect by exploring the world, and a way to raise fallen enemies as extra pets for a short time. Neither was in the game when Early Access began.
Elementalist: four elemental pets and conjurations
The Elementalist commands fire, water, earth and air with spells and a summoned elemental. The developers say the class solos well by letting its pet tank.
You unlock all four pet types by level 12 and get a new summon rank every 16 levels. Each rank summons a pet at your own level.
Elementalist spells
- *Companion Strike* is your main source of damage.
- *Elemental Blast* is your main nuke. It adds an effect based on which elemental you have out.
- *Fount of Mana* comes from the water pet and gives your party a mana aura.
- The kit also has Elemental Empowerment, Elemental Resurgence, Speedy Companion and the self-buff Elemental Spellshield.
You can still conjure food, drink, bandages, manastones and elemental weapons. The developers had planned to cut these conjurations. In the end they kept them and added a Ring of Water Breathing.
Charm and other pets
Five more classes have a pet or a charm:
- Enchanter: summons a Shadowkin Defender at your level, and can charm. See the Enchanter and Bard guide.
- Shadow Knight: summons a Soul Servant. This takes a Soul Remnant, a reagent you collect with Siphoning Slash.
- Bard: the Siren's Call line charms beasts and humanoids only. The developers say it is not reliable enough to build around.
- Druid: Charm Beasts.
- Inquisitor: Dominate the Mind, a brief charm on a very long cooldown.
Patch 0.30.0.0 on September 19, 2026 cut the damage that charmed NPCs deal. The cut applies to charm for Enchanters, Elementalists, Druids, Bards and Necromancers. Dominate the Mind was not changed because of its long cooldown and short duration. The Enchanter deep dive says soloing with charm still works, just less efficiently. The September 30 release patch moved Enchanter charm spells to levels 4, 12, 24, 36 and 48.
Four classes lost their pets in the deep dives. The Druid lost its bear, the Paladin lost Ancient Guardian, and the Shaman and Spellblade pets were removed too. Older guides may still list these pets.
Which races can play each pet class
The table covers the nine races playable in Early Access, as of October 2026.
| Race | Beastmaster | Necromancer | Elementalist |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deep Elf | No | Yes | Yes |
| Deep Gnome | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Dwarf | No | No | Yes |
| Gnome | No | Yes | Yes |
| Goblin | Yes | Yes | No |
| Halfling | Yes | No | No |
| Human | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Ogre | Yes | No | Yes |
| Wood Elf | Yes | No | No |
Humans and Deep Gnomes can play all three. Four planned races will add options later:
- Trolls: Beastmaster or Necromancer
- Deep Dwarves: Necromancer or Elementalist
- High Elves: Elementalist
- Var'nai: Necromancer
None of the four was playable at the Early Access launch. The races guide covers each race.
Bring your pet class to guild camps
Monsters & Memories is built around camps in shared zones, not instanced dungeons. The developers call the game group-focused, so your pet class will still spend plenty of time in a group. CoGM gives your guild one place to plan those camps.
- Events: officers post a Camp or Dungeon event with 6 seats, or a Named target event with open signups. The default seats are 1 tank, 1 healer, 1 support and 3 DPS.
- Roster: /upload reads a screenshot of the character window (Inventory tab). It picks up level, race, class, deity, health, mana, armor class, stats and resists for the guild roster.
- Class icons: each of the 18 classes has its own emblem, so officers can see who plays what.
Keep your guild's roster current without spreadsheets. On CoGM, members run /upload with a character-window screenshot and the roster fills in class, level and stats.
