Monsters & Memories Enchanter and Bard Guide
The Enchanter and the Bard keep a Monsters & Memories camp under control. The Enchanter is the game's premier crowd controller. The Bard plays songs as group auras, stops monsters with shouts and pulls. Both lean on Charisma, and both had charm damage cut at launch. Here is how each kit works as of October 2026.

Crowd control and support in a group
Experience comes fastest at camps, where your group holds a spot in a shared zone and kills the monsters near it. When a pull brings more than one monster, someone has to hold the extras while the group kills one. That job is crowd control. The official new player guide lists the terms you will see in group chat. In our words:
| Term | What it means at a camp |
|---|---|
| CC | Crowd control. It can also mean camp check, so read the context. |
| Mez | Short for mesmerize: holding a monster out of the fight while the group kills another. |
| Lull | Calming a monster so it stays put when you pull its neighbor. |
| Pull | Bringing a monster back to camp. |
| Inc | Incoming: a pull is on its way. |
| Train | A player running for a zone line with monsters that attack on sight right behind them. |
The class pages name the Enchanter the premier crowd-control class. The Bard is listed for support and utility, and its deep dive adds crowd control and pulling. The Monk is the premier puller. See the classes guide for all 18 classes.
Enchanter: spells, buffs and crowd control
Charisma is a primary stat for the Enchanter. It scales Enchanter damage, Runeskin, charm and lull.
| Part of the kit | What you get |
|---|---|
| Crowd control | Mesmerize, charm and a point-blank stun. The pacify line now hits a single target. |
| Buffs | Sagacity (Charisma, Intelligence and Wisdom in one buff), Group Sagacity, Group Enlightenment (mana regeneration), Haste, Clarity, Runeskin |
| Self-buff | Vespyra's Veil |
| Debuffs | Fracture Magic, Vertigo, and Exhaustion (a melee slow) |
| Damage spells | Torment, Mindshackle |
| Pet | Shadowkin Defender, which summons at your level |
| Illusions | Every racial illusion |
| Charm spells | Levels 4, 12, 24, 36 and 48 |
The Release Patch (0.30.2.1, September 30, 2026) moved charm to those five levels and gave Torment a rank at level 4, so a new Enchanter can charm from level 4. Clarity is one of the group's mana tools. The Elementalist's water pet (the Fount of Mana aura) and the Bard's Hymn of Inspiration also help with mana.
As a true caster, the Enchanter keeps one memorized spell through death (a cantrip) from level 4. Greater Invisibility is gone for every caster. The community wiki lists cloth armor; the official pages do not say. The pet classes guide compares the Shadowkin Defender with other pets.
Bard songs
Bard songs are group auras. They cost no mana, and you can play them while you move.
Measures. Beneficial songs now stay active on their own. You hold 3 at once (Cut Time), and the Common Time trait raises that to 4 at level 30. Detrimental songs still need twisting: you recast them in sequence.
Instruments. Bards use brass, string, wind and percussion instruments. A store-bought instrument gives a 50% bonus to the songs it applies to. Crescendo is the long-cooldown ability.
| Part of the kit | What you get |
|---|---|
| Songs | A secondary haste the deep dive rates among the best; resist chants that stack with other classes' resist buffs; Traveler's March; Aristam's Voluminous Voyage (speed, invisibility and slow fall in one song) |
| Mana support | Hymn of Inspiration |
| Shouts | Screaming Vocalization, Repel, Frightful Screech, the Mesmerizing Whisper line, and Paralyzing Shriek (a 3-second area stun) |
| Melee | Double Attack, which replaces Dual Wield; Whistling Blade |
| Charm | The Siren's Call line, on beasts and humanoids only |
The Release Patch lowered the base speed of Traveler's March and Voluminous Voyage to between 20% and 65%. The developers say Siren's Call is not reliable enough to build your play around. The community wiki says Bards wear most armor types; the official pages do not list them.
Charisma and charm after launch
A beta patch (0.21.0.0, March 2026) added new break logic for charm, fear and pacify, and made Charisma more important to it. Charisma scales Enchanter damage, Runeskin, charm and lull, and it sets Bard mana and song damage. The stats guide covers the other stats.
The launch charm cut. The Early Access Patch (0.30.0.0, September 19, 2026) reduced charmed NPC damage for Enchanters, Bards, Druids, Elementalists and Necromancers. The Inquisitor's Dominate the Mind was left as it was, since it lasts only a short time and has a very long cooldown. The Enchanter deep dive calls charm soloing less efficient than before but still viable. If soloing is your priority, see the best solo class guide.
Which races can play Enchanter and Bard
Six of the nine Early Access races can be Enchanters, and four can be Bards. Humans and Dwarves can play both.
| Race | Enchanter | Bard | Base Charisma (wiki, beta) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Yes | Yes | 17 |
| Dwarf | Yes | Yes | 15 |
| Deep Elf | Yes | No | 15 |
| Deep Gnome | Yes | No | 16 |
| Gnome | Yes | No | 15 |
| Goblin | Yes | No | 13 |
| Halfling | No | Yes | 15 |
| Wood Elf | No | Yes | 16 |
| Ogre | No | No | 15 |
Base Charisma is a community wiki value from beta. Class modifiers and the points you spend at character creation change your final number. High Elves, Trolls and Var'nai are planned to add Enchanter options in later modules. None of the four planned races lists Bard. One fan item database still shows Halfling, Ogre and Wood Elf Enchanters from beta data, but the official race page does not allow them. Start cities are in the races guide.
Where your spells come from
Your starting note sends you to your class guild master, and that visit is your starter quest. The guild master starts you on a chain of intro quests, trains your skills and hands you new ability scrolls. Quests have no markers. Hail an NPC with H, answer with keywords in /say, and check your journal (J) for the conversation.
You scribe each scroll into your spellbook, then memorize it. You can keep 10 abilities memorized at a time. Since the Release Patch, every class pays the same total for scrolls in each 5-level band. Levels 1 to 5 cost 4 silver 5 copper.
Since the Early Access Patch, spell vendors sell most of the group buffs that used to come from research. We have no confirmed vendor list yet, so ask a city guard. Guards answer keyword questions and often point you the right way. If you die, your spellbook stays on your corpse and your memorized spells are wiped, except an Enchanter's cantrip.
Give your crowd controller a seat
CoGM's Monsters & Memories events come with three presets: Camp and Dungeon with 6 seats each, and Named target with no size limit, so signups stay open. Seats start as 1 tank, 1 healer, 1 support and 3 DPS, and a preset sets the tag, title, signup cap and role seats. The same presets work as attendance templates.
Put your Enchanter or Bard in the support seat. Members can also run /upload on a screenshot of their character window, and CoGM reads their level, class, stats and resists. More on the event scheduler page.
FAQ
Can Enchanters still solo with charm?
Yes, but it is less efficient than before. The Early Access Patch cut the damage charmed NPCs deal, and the Enchanter deep dive calls charm soloing still viable. Enchanters get charm spells at levels 4, 12, 24, 36 and 48.
How many songs can a Bard keep up?
Three beneficial songs at once, and four from level 30 with the Common Time trait. Detrimental songs still have to be twisted.
What stat do Bards and Enchanters need?
Charisma. It is a primary stat for Enchanters, and it sets Bard mana and song damage. It also matters for charm, fear and pacify breaks.
Do Bards use mana?
Bards have mana, and Charisma sets how much. Songs cost no mana, and you can play them while you move.
